About

Twenty-five years, still answering the call.

Silentweb is owned by Matt Simpson and is based out of Kingston, Ontario. It started in 2001 as a hosting operation for entrepreneurs who wanted a reliable low-cost service, and that has never changed. Servers have come and gone — websrv01, 02, 03, through 06 — and a good number of clients have been along for all of them.

Our practice is deliberately small. That means we say no to work that doesn't fit with our direction or we can't do well, and it means the person who scopes your project typically takes care of your project. Today our work spans hosting, design and development, penetration testing and security consulting, and training.

The clients we keep longest tend to have something in common. They are artists, designers, and musicians, creators and builders, people writing software, and organisations who help people and serve their communities. What they share is not an industry — it is caring how the thing is built, which makes them good to build for. We are builders as well, which is most of the reason it works.

DigitalOrphans, our membership hosting brand, has been folded into Silentweb. Its post archive lives on the News page.
